About Miami Web Fest: Miami Web Fest (or Miami Web Series Festival) is a New type of “film festival” for a new type of “filmmaker”.
A “web series” is a TV pilot, divided into segments and shown on the internet.
Miami Web Fest finds the best of these programs and shows them in theaters in Miami, along with panel discussions, exclusive parties,
and an elaborate awards ceremony all designed to increase their exposure. The event includes a veteran’s component called the
Veteran Film Awards, celebrating the excellent work of military veterans who go on to create film productions.
For NETWORKS, Miami Web Fest also serves as an IDEA FACTORY, allowing creatives to pitch ideas and develop concepts in partnership
with major network executives.
For the general public, it's simply the MOST FUN you EVER HAD at a FILM FESTIVAL!!
Miami Web Fest features everything you would expect in a cutting-edge International Film Festival: Theater Screenings, Panels, Networking, and and Elaborate Awards Ceremony. It also includes something completely original called "ScreenBash" parties. With "ScreenBash" parties, content from the web fest is shown on theaters during exciting dance parties at some of Miami's hottest night-spots!
About the Veteran Film Awards: The Veteran Film Awards was founded by award-winning filmmaker and Army Veteran Bryan Thompson,
as an extension of the 4-year running Miami Web Fest.
Thompson discovered film as a post-deployment outlet of expression. The event is designed to highlight and recognize the veteran experience and to support veterans who have the passion and skill to create amazing visual works of art, thus continuing their outstanding contributions to society in a vibrant way! Our keynote speaker for this year’s event is Documentary Filmmaker and Retired US Army General Bernard “Burn” Loeffke. General Loeffke was the first American to have jumped with Communist Chinese Units. He earned this distinction when he became the first US Army General to be assigned to the American Embassy after the Communist takeover. General Loeffke also served as the Army Attaché in Moscow, as a staff officer in the White House, and as the Director of the Commission on White House Fellows. His film “US & China; A General’s Dream” showcases his vision for diplomacy and cooperation.
As a scholar, Bernard Loeffke earned a Master's Degree in Russian language and Soviet Area Studies and a doctorate in International Relations. He taught Russian at the United States Military Academy and US Foreign Policy at Georgetown University. He was the Army’s visiting Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Most recently, in 1997, he earned a Physician’s Assistant Degree from Nova Southeastern University and later received the President’s Distinguished Alumni Award for his medical service in Africa. He now teaches as a visiting professor; public health, emergency medicine and mediation at two medical universities. He is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and French and has a working knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. He has authored several inspirational books, and he and his son are currently co-authoring a book on their experiences in China.
As a humanitarian, he continues to employ the skills he acquired in his medical training on relief missions in many of the world’s most daunting areas. On retiring from the Army, he embarked on this new calling – that of healer – to provide medical aid to people in impoverished circumstances, often at personal risk. His medical theater of operations spans the globe. He had his first taste of missionary medicine in a combat zone in Africa. His travels have taken him to such places as Bosnia, Haiti, Iraq, Kenya, Niger, Darfur, Sudan and the Amazon jungles. His book; “Warrior to Healer”, summarizes his life’s transition. He and his children maintain a website; HOT – “www.helpingotherstoday.com” – to inspire support for worthwhile causes important to them.
